I love that a new year calls for fresh, exciting and innovative ideas and the 2018 Colour Palette calls for a shift; for a change in scenery, a yearning for something different to prick our interest. From travel plans, to home interiors, revamping your wardrobe or grander career plans – a new year is a fitting time to make a much-needed change.
Whilst our tastes will not change overnight, fresh influences, posts, editorial shoots, photographs and new-in sections will always help to sway our preferences. As new trends come and go – in both design, fashion and interiors – we hold on tight to the ones we like and discard the ones we know are not for us. It is these new waves of inspiration from editors, designers and influencers that ultimately change the way we want to look, and play an important role in how we evolve and grow our style.
Following the release last year of Pantone’s new colours for 2018, it is always interesting to see how they will influence items we buy, how we dress and what we pin and like. Although I cannot attest to being overly fond of Ultra Violet – the colour of 2018 – a gem-stone necklace, cosy blanket scarf or luxurious velvet cushion would no doubt attribute this trend wonderfully.
Alongside the bright violet shade, we can look forward to more blush tones, plenty of brights and darker, more brooding hues too. Hawthorn Rose, tones of Elderberry and subtle mauves initially caught my eye, whilst the more intense notes of black, navy and deep rich reds could make for an interesting palette too – both in the home or added to your wardrobe.
As always, the high-street and high-end stores have joined the colourful bandwagon wonderfully – releasing an array of on-trend and inspiring pieces to add to your wish-list for 2018.
