It’s no secret that the autumn months conjure up an array of beautiful hues and tones. You only need to step foot into your favourite high-street store to see beautiful burnt oranges, rusts, deep browns, soft greys, wine-rich tones and khaki greens.
The colour palette for the months that lay ahead is in stark contrast to the subtle pastels we saw during the spring and summer months then. We swap our sunshine yellows, cornflower blues and soft lilacs and go in for the darker, moodier, richer jewel-toned hues. We mirror the changing of the leaves with their beautiful hues to favour a wardrobe that perfectly personifies the season.
But this transitional season can raise a few questions: Would you pair orange with rust? Or burgundy with khaki and grey? How do you keep warm, layer and not just resort to always wearing black? As we find ourselves seeing far more of the moon than the sun, incorporating a little colour here and there is a brilliant way to lift our moods and give our wardrobes a welcoming refresh.
If you resort to the timeless colours of black, navy or khaki when the last of the summer sunshine disappears and you’re not always sure how to style the more popular autumnal hues so prevalent at this time of year, try incorporating them in a number of different ways. When it comes to autumn, accessorising is key. A crossbody bag, wool-blend scarf, French-inspired beret or simply painting your nails in your preferred shade will all provide a perfect nod to the new season, without the need to venture too far out of your comfort zone.
If, however, you’re tempted to push your sartorial barrier that little bit further this season, then a winter coat or jacket presents the perfect opportunity for adding a splash of colour too – why not opt for more brighter colours like mustard or a rich berry number?
So, with autumn now in full swing, we’re a little spoilt for choice when it comes to all these seasonal shades.
