It’s certainly no secret that casual dressing has gained a lot of traction in the last few years. Whilst scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest, joggers have been given a sports-luxe make-over while sports brands, including Adidas and Nike, have successfully reinvented everyday dressing for both men and women.
Wearing a suit to work is no longer a prerequisite for success as tailored blazers and smart sweatshirts are being teamed with satin tracksuit bottoms, cargo trousers and crisp white trainers.
If we travelled back 50 years, the general consensus for appropriate workwear dressing revolved around three-piece suits, daily-shined shoes and well-pressed blouses, but, like many things, the tide when it comes to professional dressing has started to turn.
From CEOS to COOs and directors to entrepreneurs – status is now rarely governed by what you wear. Of course, there will be companies that remain strict when it comes to dress codes for employees but for many offices up and down the country, a smart/casual code has been enforced.
This change can cause sartorial musings and worries though. Do you blend your weekday wardrobe with that of your weekend one? Should you still wear a blazer to meetings? Do light-wash jeans fit into the category of smart/casual? Can you get away with wearing trainers? And what about dressing for summer weather?
As with all difficult decisions when it comes to what to wear, preparation and organisation is key. Having a solid base of workwear staples will make early morning dressing that much easier, and if business allows, have a little fun with it too – who says 9-5 dressing has to be dull?
With the high-street well and truly jumping on the popular neutral trend for spring and summer, you can create an effortless and chic workwear wardrobe that remains wonderfully original, creative and professional too.
