Feud: Bette and Joan

From the producer of The People v. O.J. Simpson, Ryan Murphy is once again behind the camera filming the first season of Feud a drama series starring Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange, portraying Bette Davis and Joan Crawford respectively.

The rivalry between Davis and Crawford is the stuff of Hollywood legend – beginning on set of the only film they ever starred in together What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? in 1962, the two stars fell victim of a jealousy and malice towards each other that has since become one of the most legendary celebrity rivalries of all time.

Murphy has announced that Feud will be an anthology series, much like that of American Horror Story of which he is also the producer – this new way of series production has become increasing popular for both studios and fans alike. An anthology series usually presents a number of seasons within the same genre or theme, but with a whole new cast of characters. Over the years we’ve seen  the likes of Skins, Fargo, Black Mirror and True Detective gain a cult-like following due to their ingenious reworking of content every season.

For Murphy the inspiration for Feud is due to his will to create more stories for women, about women and by women. In Murphy’s production company, at least half of his staff are women and minorities, with Feud alone having 15 roles for women over 40.

The pilot is due to air on March 5th and by the looks of the recently released teaser it’s a must-watch for television addicts, that is sure to become the start of a beloved series of dramas.
